Prices for Mexican domestic flat products remain officially stable, but local producers are giving some discounts, distributors and executives from local service centers said.
The discounts are not fixed, but rather depend on each individual negotiation, sources said.
“The discounts have been applied to compete with the imported material,” one source said.
Others sources echoed expectations that flat products prices could fall further in the coming months on fears of imports gaining market share.
The Platts hot-rolled coil assessment in May is at Peso 10,100-10,200/mt ($653-$659/mt), CRC at Peso 11,600-11,700/mt and HDG at Peso 13,180-13,320/mt. Mexican steel prices are usually negotiated on a delivered basis for distances up to 200 km, excluding the mandatory IVA tax.
